چکیده

The dorsal hippocampus is crucial for learning the hidden-platform location in the hippocampus-dependent, spatial watermaze task. We have previously demonstrated that the postburst afterhyperpolarization (AHP) of hippocampal pyramidal neurons is reduced after acquisition of the hippocampus-dependent, temporal trace eyeblink conditioning task. We report here that the AHP and one or more of its associated currents (IAHP and/or sIAHP) are reduced in dorsal hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons from rats that learned the watermaze task as compared to neurons from control rats. This reduction was a learning induced phenomenon as the AHP of CA1 neurons from rats that failed to learn the hidden-platform location was similar to that of neurons from control rats. We propose that reduction of the AHP in pyramidal neurons in regions crucial for learning is a cellular mechanism of learning that is conserved across species and tasks.

Electrophysiological study of amygdale-induced changes in the excitability of CA1 hippocampal pyramidal neurons in male adult rats

Introduction: Many studies have shown that amygdala kindling produces synaptic potentiation by induction of changes in the neuronal electrophysiological properties and inward currents both in epileptic focus and in the areas which are in connection with the epileptic focus and have important role in seizure development and progression such as hippocampal CA1 region. However, cellular mechani...

Chemical kindling enhances the Schaffer collateral-CAl pyramidal cell synaptic transmission in anesthetized rats

Epilepsy is one of the common disorders in human community. Clinical observations have shown that epileptic patients have often difficulty in learning and memory. Kindling is a laboratory model for studying epilepsy and its complications. This experiment was designed to study the effect of chemical kindling on Schaffer collateral-CA1 pyramidal cell synaptic transmission using pentylenetetrazole...

A cellular correlate of learning-induced metaplasticity in the hippocampus.

Metaplasticity, the plasticity of synaptic plasticity, is thought to have a pivotal role in activity-dependent modulation of synaptic connectivity, which underlies learning and memory. Metaplasticity is usually attributed to modifications in glutamate receptor-mediated synaptic transmission. However, experimental evidence and theoretical considerations suggest that learning reduces the predispo...

Effect of repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation during epileptogenesis on spontaneous activity of hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons in rats

Introduction: Considering the antiepileptogenic effects of repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), the effect of rTMS applied during amygdala kindling on spontaneous activity of hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons was investigated. Materials and Methods: A tripolar electrode was inserted in basolateral amygdala of Male Wistar rats. After a recovery period, animals received daily kindl...
